I bought my Yamaha XT600E in March 2007. I'd been pondering for several months on what bike to get. I passed my 33bhp (restricted for 2 years) Test in August 2004, and, just because I could, I wanted to get a bigger bike. At the time of passing my Bike Test I was riding a Yamaha DT125R ('89), and was looking for a bike that was under 33bhp, and came across a Yamaha TTR 250 ('94) in my local Adtrader. It was a grey-import 4-stroke Trail Bike, and only weighed as much as my DT125R. It was a nice bike and had an electric start, but was a bit dodgy to ride at night coz it only had a 35 watt headlight and you couldn't see very far up the road. I used this for a year until it started smoking a little and the valve stem oil seals needed doing. I done them but in the process I managed to strip the thread on a Cam cap retaining bolt. And it required heli-coiling to repair it, but the thing was I had to take the engine out of the frame to do it, (lack of space in the frame). I didn't want to be without a bike to ride so I bought another DT125R ('02), in August 2005, and when I fixed the TTR250 I sold it .

The date came (12th August 2006), when the 33bhp restriction on my licence was lapsed, but I wasn't ready to buy a bigger bike yet. That didn't stop me from looking though.  There's loads of bikes that I wouldn't mind owning, but a person's only got so much space, (and money!). Here's a few of the bikes that I was considering:

I'd been using the DT125R ('02) until March 2007, when I was browsing Ebay for the above listed bikes (and a few others). I was looking for bikes within 60 miles, (I didn't fancy going half was across the country to get one). And amongst the listings I found the Yamaha XT600E that I've got now. It was in Bedfordshire and had a "But It Now" price on it. I pondered for a few days before I done "But It Now". I thought, "why-not", after-all it's got nearly twice as much power as my de-restricted DT125R, and does 55mpg, (my DT125R done 45mpg!).

The first time I rode it, it felt really strange compared to my DTR. It only needs to be revved to about 4500rpm to change up a gear, and it cruises at 60mph at 4000rpm. The clutch is surprisingly light too.
